A woman was arrested after police say she attacked the driver of a vehicle from the backseat, causing the driver to flee the car to call 911.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Broward County court, Kayla Sophia Triplett, 30, of Coral Springs, was taken into custody on September 19 following an altercation that occurred the previous evening.
The Coral Springs Police Department incident report shows that Triplett was riding in a vehicle with the victim, identified as a woman over the age of 65, and a witness. Investigators say Triplett became verbally aggressive, telling the victim she “deserved to be dead” and threatening to kill her.
The report alleges Triplett struck the victim several times, hitting her on the head, back, and shoulder while the car was traveling near 1000 North University Drive. When the victim attempted to escape, the witness reportedly pulled her back to prevent her from being hit by oncoming traffic.
Once the car stopped near 1410 North University Drive, the victim was allegedly struck again. When she said she would call the police, Triplett is accused of grabbing the witness’s phone and saying, “You’re not calling 911.”
The victim told officers she managed to escape the vehicle and call 911 because Triplett was unaware she had an additional cell phone in her pocket.
Triplett reportedly fled the scene on foot but was arrested the following day and booked into the Broward Main Jail.
