A Coral Springs man was arrested after allegedly threatening his family with a kitchen knife during a domestic dispute and later assaulting officers.
Coral Springs Police Department arrest records show Jacob Rayshad Burkhardt, 28, was arrested on June 27 and is facing four felony charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a law enforcement officer, and two counts of resisting arrest.
The incident report indicates the incident began late on the night of June 26 at an apartment complex located near the 3100 block of Riverside Drive. Officers responded to a 911 call about a family member “yielding a knife and making threatening statements.”
When officers arrived, records show they found Burkhardt visibly agitated but unarmed, sitting on a couch.
According to the report, a female family member informed police that the argument had started over a financial disagreement. She said she witnessed Burkhardt grab a kitchen knife, raise it, and scream that he wanted to kill her. Fearing for her life, she locked herself in her bedroom and called 911.
Two siblings confirmed what happened, stating that Burkhardt came home intoxicated, began yelling threats, and had to be physically restrained from approaching the victim. One sibling reportedly had blood on her shirt, which she said came from Burkhardt during the struggle.
Officers later recovered two kitchen knives from the sink, identifying one with a white handle as the weapon used in the incident.
Due to Burkhardt’s intoxication and a minor hand laceration, officers transported him to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical clearance. While attempting to escort him into the hospital, Burkhardt allegedly wrapped his legs around an officer’s leg, prompting the officer to strike him in the face to break free.
Police say Burkhardt then attempted to spit on and headbutt officers, resulting in a head injury when he was brought to the ground.
After being read his Miranda rights, Burkhardt admitted to attempting to headbutt an officer and acknowledged telling his mother, “If you’re not gonna pay me, I’m gonna hurt ya’ll.”
Burkhardt was medically cleared and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
