Meet the nine Republican and Democratic candidates running for Florida’s newly redrawn Congressional District 22, which now includes Parkland, Weston, Coral Springs, and much of western Broward.
Nearly half the voters in Florida’s radically redrawn 22nd Congressional District live in Broward County, and for the first time in years, western Broward anchors a congressional seat that leans Republican.
Under the new map, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the May 4 map, which passed during an April special session; the district’s Broward footprint includes all of Parkland and Weston, plus portions of Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, Davie, Plantation, and Sunrise. That’s roughly 345,000 of the district’s 769,000 residents, making Broward the district’s largest population base.
The redraw left the seat open. It no longer includes the eastern Palm Beach and Broward areas where Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel lives. Instead, she’s now running in CD-23.
Seven Republicans and two Democrats qualified by the June 12 deadline. Here’s a snapshot of each candidate that remains in the race.
Republicans
Naples franchise businessman (Church’s Chicken, Dunkin’ Donuts) and Marine veteran, making his second run for Congress after raising nearly $3.66 million and finishing third in the 2020 FL-19 primary, won by Byron Donalds.
Real estate adviser, Marine veteran, and former West Palm Beach police officer who entered the race in January. Redistricting moved his home into CD 23, but he’s staying in the race, since district residency isn’t constitutionally required.
Cooper City fintech executive and Ibanera founder, who originally filed against Debbie Wasserman Schultz before redistricting to CD 22. He’s the money leader with $2.5 million raised – $2.3 million of it his own, including 10 Bitcoin sold for roughly $800,000. He faces multiple unresolved civil suits
Certified public accountant from Ave Maria who lost the 2024 FL-26 primary to Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart. At the field’s first forum, he staked out a water-focused lane, telling attendees to “save the water, save the aquifer.”
Loxahatchee business owner and president of Wellington-based Capitol Solutions Consulting, who served as deputy director of the House Republican Conference and later directed USAID’s Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives during the George W. Bush administration. Hasdorff lost a 2020 GOP primary in Alabama’s 2nd District and is running the party-purity lane, saying she has never voted for or donated to a Democrat.
Keiser is a Parkland resident and a three-decade vice chancellor at Keiser University who has the deepest establishment support, including endorsements from U.S. Reps. Aaron Bean, Neal Dunn, Randy Fine, and Jimmy Patronis, plus the Palm Beach Police Benevolent Association.
A 2018 state Senate candidate, she’s campaigning on 36 years in the district while taking recent fire over business ties to China.
Former Lee County GOP chair, longtime Michael Flynn ally, and real estate broker who says he will move back to his hometown of Belle Glade to run. He worked with The America Project, scrutinizing Florida elections officials, founded the SW Florida Heroes Foundation for veterans, and served as a fire commissioner in Alva.
Democrats
Jupiter technology executive, former White House Fellow, and former high school principal, considered the leading Democrat in the race.
Attorney from Parkland. She was recognized by the City of Parkland on June 3 with a proclamation in observance of Juneteenth, honoring her community service and humanitarian work. She and Dandiya will settle the nomination in the same August 18 primary.
The general election is on November 3.
