Bishop Rick Thomas Selected For Coral Springs' MLK Monument Award

The City of Coral Springs’ Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee voted to award its 2022 MLK Monument Award to Bishop Rick Thomas, head pastor of Abundant Life Church and headmaster of Abundant Life Academy.

The committee chose Thomas “for his valuable service and contributions to the Coral Springs community” and for embodying King’s ideals, according to a written announcement issued by the city Monday.

Thomas, a Coral Springs resident for more than 40 years, has been actively involved with supporting the Coral Springs MLK Committee’s programs since its inception, including events like MLK Luncheons, the National Day of Prayer, the Literary and Art Student Awards, and the MLK Scholarship program, according to the city.

“The core values of Bishop Rick Thomas are Love, Honor, Serve, and Giving,” said Coral Springs Vice Mayor Josh Simmons. “He believes and embodies these core values and practices them continuously; to honor him with the MLK Monument Award demonstrates how much we appreciate his service to our community.”

Thomas has also hosted middle and high school students at Abundant Life Church for the church’s Leadership and Diversity Day, held annually on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

According to the city, his parishioners have also participated in Coral Spring’s Unitown, where students share their cultural experiences and learn about community leadership.
