The husband of a dead woman found floating in a Coral Springs canal Monday has been charged with domestic battery while detectives investigate her death, authorities said.
Jessica Lloyd, whose age police did not make public, was found in the water near her home at 9901 Northwest 15th Ct. around 9 p.m. Monday after police responded to multiple 911 calls.
The first call was made at 8:51 p.m. by Lloyd’s husband, Jeffrey Ernest Evans, 43, who reported that his wife was “experiencing a ‘mental break’ and needed police assistance,” according to a Coral Springs Police arrest affidavit.
The second 911 call came in at 8:57 p.m. from a caller who told police he heard a woman screaming, “My husband is trying to kill me,” the affidavit states.
Authorities found Lloyd in the water a short time later and rushed her to Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead at 10:05 p.m. Monday, records show.
Police said their investigation showed that Lloyd and Evans had “been experiencing marital issues,” according to the affidavit.
Evans was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with a detective, police said.
The entirety of his police statement was redacted from the affidavit.
Evans was arrested and charged with one count of domestic violence—simple battery, police said.
No additional charges had been filed in the case as of Wednesday night.
Authorities have not released any additional details about Lloyd’s death, and the case remains under investigation by CSPD.
Anyone with information is asked to contact CSPD Detective Jessica Girard at JGirard@coralsprings.gov.
