A specialty designed healthcare clinic for the most vulnerable has opened its doors in Coral Springs.
Brave Kids Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care—or PPEC—is a new model of health care for children with special needs, said company CEO Juan Lache. Brave Kids is designed to treat children up to age 20 who are diagnosed with certain severe, complex, debilitating physical impairments.
“It’s the first of its kind in the area,” he said, adding the facility is an outpatient clinic that provides physical and occupational therapy, skilled nursing care, oxygen administration, and other necessary modes of treatment; free transportation is provided to and from the facility.
“It’s sometimes a problem for parents who can’t take children to the clinic. That’s why free transportation is so important,” Lache said. “We pick them up at home and take them home.”
Lache said there is also a staff general-practice physician on call. Brave Kids is always in contact with the patient’s own medical doctors to ensure they’re receiving the prescribed treatment. This type of program offers an alternative to prolonged hospitalizations.
Some of the impairments qualifying for treatment at Brave Kids are cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, G-tube feeding, tracheostomy, diabetes, oxygen management, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, chronic asthma, ventilation management, and maternity complications.
Brave Kids PPEC is located at 10168 W. Sample Rd. and opened for business on May 31. Their phone number is 754-529-8265.
