March is Women’s History Month! From historical figures to the present day, women are the backbone of our country.
History tells us that there is no limit to their potential, whether in government, sports, technology, or even space. Join the Broward County Libraries Division for different programs throughout the month highlighting great books that document the female heroes of our past and present. Check out the events calendar at Broward.org/Library for more information.
It’s a great time to get out and enjoy the sunshine at our wonderful parks and natural areas throughout the county. I was honored to present a proclamation recognizing March as Florida Bike Month. The proclamation highlights the health and quality-of-life benefits of riding. It also showcases the importance of road safety and equitable bicycle infrastructure. So, get out there and ride because there is nothing like the wind in your hair and being with nature.
In February, I was proud to sign a historic investment in our sewer infrastructure throughout Broward County. Totaling over $199 million for investment in funding for projects like new major pipes, construction of a lift station, and eliminating over 600 septic tanks, this investment continues Broward County’s commitment to maintaining and providing world-class services for our residents. These essential services will provide clean water for residents and wastewater treatment for generations to come.
Sea Turtle Season officially begins on March 1 in Broward County! From March through October, several different species of sea turtles will visit Broward’s beaches to lay their eggs. Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program will monitor the nests and turtles throughout the season. For our neighbors by the beach, please remember to respect our wildlife and follow the local ordinances for artificial lighting.
March is a time when most kids (and parents) have their spring break. Whether you’re hitting the beach, traveling somewhere new, or just hanging out at home, please remember to be safe and responsible. Broward County and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office remind you not to drive under the influence and that underage drinking will not be tolerated. Keep in mind that we will have many tourists visiting as well. Please observe all rules, be safe, and most of all, have a great time!
