Broward Health Coral Springs has expanded its robotic surgery program with new systems, key milestones and a designation as the region’s only Epicenter for da Vinci colorectal surgery.
The hospital became the first in South Florida to have two robotic systems dedicated to urology — Aquablation and the new HYDROS Robotic System — while also adding the da Vinci Xi, the latest generation of Intuitive’s robotic platform. It now has four da Vinci systems in operation.
“This is about meeting the growing needs of our community while advancing physician training and patient care,” said Kristen Bowman, CEO of Broward Health Coral Springs.
The Epicenter designation allows surgeons nationwide to observe advanced colorectal procedures performed at the hospital under the guidance of Dr. Joseph Corallo, vice chief of staff and director of minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery.
The hospital also marked its 350th Aquablation procedure for enlarged prostates, a therapy that reduces urinary symptoms for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Urologist Dr. Azeem Sachedina was the first in Broward County to complete 100 Aquablation cases.
Since launching its program nearly 15 years ago, Broward Health Coral Springs has performed more than 6,700 robotic-assisted procedures across multiple specialties. Officials say the latest advancements underscore the hospital’s leadership in minimally invasive surgery across South Florida.
