The public is invited to a menorah-lighting at the Art Walk on Dec. 4.
Chabad of Coral Springs is celebrating the 7th night of Hanukkah with a 12-foot menorah lighting, part of the worldwide Hanukkah campaign — an initiative launched by the late Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson in 1973.
The campaign highlights and encourages the central theme of the holiday — publicizing the story of the Hanukkah miracle.
Chaya Mushka Yaras, Chabad of Coral Springs co-director, said the menorah represents light and goodness for everyone, and the message is not exclusively for the Jewish community; it is universal.
“It is our job in the world to spread happiness and peace to all around us. Menorah is a way to recognize those values and bring light to the city. It’s outside on the streets, for everyone to see and be inspired by,” she said, adding that Chabad is proud and grateful to the city for allowing the Jewish community to remind people how important and powerful this message is.
Nachama Natalie Gutman, social services director, has worked with city officials for the last four years to approve the tall menorahs for Hanukkah celebrations and involve the community in Chabad events.
“Natalie has really made it her mission to have the city embrace the Jewish community and show solidarity by having the menorah displayed during the holidays. She wants to spread the light in the world,” said Yaras.
The event starts at 7.45 p.m. Organizers will distribute free Chanukah gelt and dreidels. The ArtWalk is located at NW 31st Court.
