As families across Florida prepared for the new school year, Comcast and Xfinity employees teamed up with community partners to provide resources and support at back-to-school events throughout the state.
In Deerfield Beach, Comcast Finance Director Shawn Johnson joined HandsOn Broward volunteers to distribute more than 600 pairs of free shoes to students from kindergarten through high school. Johnson said he was especially moved after speaking with a grandmother caring for four grandchildren who was relieved by the program’s support.
“I knew exactly how she felt, from my own experiences,” Johnson said. “With the help of volunteers, the distribution was moving with precision and efficiency, allowing her to get back to work and make her grandchildren happy with their new shoes.”
Johnson also assisted local mom Sharisse Brantley and her children, who left excited with brand new sneakers in their sizes.
Meanwhile, Comcast volunteers in Lake Worth partnered with the Salvation Army to host a Back-to-School Community Party, offering families games, food, and fun. Teams across Florida also packed backpacks in Palm Beach County, supported events in Inverness and Tallahassee, and connected families to affordable high-speed Internet through Xfinity.
Comcast emphasized its Internet Essentials program, which provides qualifying families with home Internet service starting at $14.95 per month, as well as its Lift Zones initiative, which offers free WiFi and digital skills training at community centers statewide.
