The high school baseball season in Coral Springs is officially underway, with a rivalry game and a coach recording his first win with his new team.
The Coral Glades baseball team beat Coral Springs Charter in their first game of the season 7-2 on Monday. Caleb Kohnert knocked in two runs, while Jason Lincoln and Brandon Guzman each drove in one. Lincoln won, pitching five innings, allowing only one run and four strikeouts. Asa Lindo and Tyler Wojtynek each pitched one inning.
The Jaguars improved to 2-0 following a 6-2 win on Thursday against South Plantation High School. Lindo tossed six scoreless innings and struck out six while recording an RBI. Cloevens Challenger also plated one before Charlie Beaty tossed the final inning. Coral Glades is coming off a season where they went 11-11 and will play Fort Lauderdale High School in their next game on Wednesday, February 19, at 6:30 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter is now 0-2 and also lost against St. Thomas Aquinas High School in its first game under coach Renny Tolentino. They will play Charles W. Flanagan High School in its next game on Wednesday, February 19, at 6 p.m.
Coral Springs High School beat Monarch High School 11-0 for their first win on a night when they also recognized their former coach, Frank Bumbales. Shaquille Sala led the way with three RBIs while Ryan Guthrie knocked in two, and Jaxon Krugman, Manny Torres, and Ruben Zuany all plated one. Saul Bethacourt earned the win with five strong innings, allowing no runs and eight strikeouts before Angel Ruguian pitched one.

CSHS went on to win 13-7 in their second game against South Broward High School, with Zuany knocking in three runs. Natron Wheeler drove in two, while Sala and Krugman also had RBIs. Guthrie was the winning pitcher, with Rugain, Aiden Roy, and Saul Garcia pitching in relief. The Colts went 7-18 last year and will play Cypress Bay High School in their next game on Wednesday, February 18, at 7 p.m.
J.P. Taravella also won in Head Coach Head Coach Jorge Alvarado’s first game. Tyler Morgan homered and drove in three runs while Zack Stephens plated two, and Jeremiah McFarlane and Sebastian Mayfield knocked in one. Anthony Tizol earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing one earned run and five strikeouts. Bryson Plante and John Almeida also pitched in relief before an 11-6 victory on Thursday against Cypress Bay High School.
JC Martinez drove in four, while Michael Ghann drove in two and earned the win. Joseph Ghann also had two RBIs, along with one from Morgan, who pitched in relief along with John Almeida. J.P. Taravella won 15 games last year under Coach Joe Giummule, who won his first game at Jupiter High School against the defending State Champions in Cardinal Gibbons High School. He previously won 96 games at JPT before accepting his new position with Jupiter High School. The Trojans will play Pembroke Pines Charter in their next game on Thursday, February 20, at 5:45. p.m.
