Coral Glades varsity football picked up its first win of the season Friday night.
The Jaguars defeated Coral Springs High School in the Coral Classic 27-0 to move to 1-5. It was only the third time they had beaten CSHS in the past 14 games.
Coral Glades’ record does not indicate the type of team they are. They have played four top teams in Broward County and traveled to Georgia to take on Valdosta High School. After scoring only 33 points in their first five games, the Jaguars scored 27 in their win.
“We’re just a young inexperienced team that’s trying to find a way, but to remain on top of the city is a big thing for us,” said Head Coach Cam Thomas. “It’s not over yet. We are just going to take it one day at a time, one game at a time, and just keep working to become the best in the city.”
Freshman quarterback Jayden Chico threw three touchdown passes, a rushing score, and a two-point conversion. Hezekiah Snooks, Corey Grant, and Jimmy Jean-Simon caught passes for touchdowns.
Next, the Jaguars face their arch-rival J.P Taravella High School on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Jason G. Stein Swamp Bowl. The Trojans are 0-5 this year and fell 38-6 during the 2021 season. CSHS is 2-4 this year and will head on the road to play Olympic Heights Community High School, which has a record of 1-6, on Thursday, Oct. 13 13, at 6:30 p.m.
