The Coral Glades football team pulled off a dramatic comeback Friday night, erasing a 21-point halftime deficit to defeat North Broward Prep 28-24 for its first win of the season.
After a delayed start and difficult opening half, the Jaguars went into halftime trailing 21-0. However, the game completely changed after the break.
Quarterback Zayo Derezende got Coral Glades on the board with a touchdown pass to Sadiq Lyons King before breaking free for a 67-yard rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-14. North Broward Prep responded with a long field goal to extend its lead to 24-14, but the Jaguars continued to rally.
Derezende connected with McKendrick Thomas for a touchdown to bring Coral Glades within three before the duo struck again late in the fourth quarter. Thomas hauled in the go-ahead touchdown with 59 seconds remaining, completing the Jaguars’ comeback and giving them a 28-24 victory.
Coral Glades previously dominated Miami Edison High School in the Kickoff Classic before falling to Blanche Ely High School in its regular-season opener.
Next, the Jaguars will face Cypress Bay High School on Friday, September 4, at 7 p.m. The Lightning opened their season with a one-touchdown victory over South Plantation High School before facing Charles W. Flanagan High School in their second game.
