Coral Glades students rehearse Funny Girl. {Diana Focas}
The Coral Glades High School drama program is set to bring the classic musical Funny Girl to life, showcasing student talent and highlighting both onstage performance and behind-the-scenes creativity.
Based on the life of Broadway star and comedian Fanny Brice, Funny Girl tells the story of her rise from New York’s Lower East Side to stardom in the famed Ziegfeld Follies. The show blends humor, romance, and iconic music, making it a staple of American musical theater.
The Coral Glades production features a cast of 17 students. Valerie Tabares stars as Fanny Brice, while Jordan Blaise takes on the role of Nick Arnstein. The cast also includes Alanah Leon, Lillianiz Oquendo, Brielle Vaval, Keon Silas, Javante Fields, Donald DiCarlo, Darien Qualles, Nialya Flores, Madison Joseph, Senai Keen, Addyson Baldwin, Cayden Sanchez, Gabriel Aguirre, Juliana Wachs, and Makayla Eluett.
Behind the scenes, more than a dozen students are part of the production crew, supporting all aspects of the show.
The production is directed by theater director Diana Focas, with student technical director Mariana Dos Santos leading crews in stage management, choreography, music, set design, lighting, sound, hair, makeup, costumes, and props.
Performances will take place at J.P. Taravella High School, located at 10600 Riverside Drive. Showtimes are scheduled for Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 26, at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online.
