Finishing off homecoming week at Coral Glades, the Jaguars varsity football team picked up an impressive 30-16 win over Charles W. Flanagan High School Friday night.
With the victory, Coral Glades improved their record to 3-1 behind a spectacular performance from their offense on a day they wore pink in support of breast cancer awareness month.
“Our crowds are getting bigger and bigger as we continue to progress and win more games,” said Head Coach Cam Thomas. “We are just going to keep on improving and hopefully get a shot to play in the State playoffs.”
While relying heavily on the run a week ago against J.P. Taravella due to heavy rain, quarterback Dylan Knaebel had a strong game.
Early on, the Jaguars took a 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Knaebel to Joell Holmes from 20 yards out before the two connected again on a 50-yard catch and scored to double the lead. Joshua Guerin made a couple of catches as well to set the Jaguars up. Then, Richie Maston added a 23-yard field goal right before halftime.
“The offensive line put on a great showing, and I didn’t get touched,” Knaebel said. “Our running back ran like I’ve never seen them run before, but I’d say the main key was our hard work and practice this week.”
In the second half, Coral Glades expanded on their lead, with JoJo Rispoli scoring a 60-yard touchdown and Aiden Harris reaching the end zone from 25 yards out.
Courtney Bucknell forced a key fumble, and Coach Thomas was extremely pleased with how his defense performed, particularly in the secondary.
Next, Coral Glades will head on the road to face West Broward High School on Friday, October 15 at 7 p.m.
