Families searching for one last hoorah before school begins can look no further than the Florida Panthers IceDen.
Parks and Recreation are hosting its Back to School Family Fun Night on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Florida Panthers IceDen, located at 3299 Sportsplex Drive.
The Back to School Bash will begin at 5 p.m. and continue through 8 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public to attend and ice skate, said Brandon Brader, recreational programs coordinator.
There will be food and beverages, including pizza and hot cocoa, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event will also feature a DJ and a craft area with coloring sheets geared toward a back-to-school theme.
Coral Springs Police will hand out 150 backpacks on a first-come, first-served basis, and the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department will set up activities and interact with children.
Backpacks will be for Coral Springs residents only. An ID is required to receive one.
The Broward County Supervisor of Elections will attend to provide general election information and have unspecified giveaways.
Brader said that the city created the family fun nights as a way to provide residents with a safe, fun, and engaging environment to provide fun for the whole family.
“Once residents come out and experience a fun and engaging environment with other families that live in the same area, our hope is that these experiences can carry over outside of this program and allow for friendships to be built,” he said.
While the city hosts most of the events at the Coral Springs Gymnasium rather than the IceDen, Brader said that the city likes to change things up and keep residents wondering what they will do next.
Brader said that the city’s planning has worked as attendance goes up throughout the year, with more families enjoying the programming.
“Providing events and programs is vital to the city and its residents because it gives us all a sense of unity and pride,” he said.
The city’s last family fun night of 2022 will be in September at the Coral Springs Gymnasium. They will resume the events in January 2023.
