On Saturday, the Coral Springs Charter wrestling team got their season underway in the Cardinal Gibbons High School Wrestling Tournament.
The Panthers went 2-3, picking up wins over Pine Crest and Charles W. Flanagan High School but fell to Cardinal Gibbons, Fort Lauderdale, and South Plantation.
Despite having several seniors graduate and state placer Michael Mocco transfer, Head Coach Eric Perez was extremely proud of his team’s performance after a successful offseason training at the Mocco Wrestling Club.
“Our team leaders stepped up big when it mattered most, and they also still managed to find time to mentor and encourage our newer wrestlers,” said Perez. “Many of these kids are not only going to be outstanding wrestlers, but they will also be fine young men because of their experience with the team.”
Elijah Perez led the way for the Panthers, going 5-0. Eduard Shmandura, Preston Lindsay, and Keon Taylor all won four matches, while Jaiden Valentin, Hunter Perez, and Peter Mocco had three wins. Brandon Hankerson, Ameer Salah, Logan Bosworth, and Trenton Brown also picked up a win.
Next, the Panthers will be in action on Dec. 10 at Mater Lakes Academy in Hialeah.
