The Coral Springs Charter boys basketball team welcomes new coach, Francis Thomas, who takes over for Eric Windell this season.
Coach Thomas comes to CSC with plenty of experience. He moved from the Virgin Islands when he was 14 years and played high school basketball in Columbia, South Carolina before he was an assistant coach in 2003.
Earning his degree in sports medicine and exercise fitness last year, Coach Thomas said the new position is a dream come true.
“It’s an honor to be named the head coach of the basketball team at CSC,” Coach Thomas said. “I’m humbled when I say this, but here at CSC, it’s going the be something special.”
A resident of Coral Springs, he’s been married for 21 years to his wife, Akisha. He also has a 12-year-old daughter, Neela.
The Panthers won 19 of 30 games in 2018 and 11in 2019 but struggled last season. CSC is 0-3 to start 2021 with losses to three talented teams in Fort Lauderdale, Somerset Academy, and Saint Andrews.
“This team is very talented, but there’s a lot to teach them,” Coach Thomas added. “We are going to surprise a lot of people this year. We plan to have fun this year.”
Next, Coach Thomas looks for his first win on Monday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. when they host Cooper City High School. The Cowboys are currently 4-2 this year.
