{City of Coral Springs}
From the Coral Springs City Commission:
May in Coral Springs is traditionally a month filled with meaningful moments of community, reflection, and connection. This year, however, we enter the month with especially heavy hearts as we continue to mourn the tragic passing of our Vice Mayor, Nancy Metayer.
Nancy was a passionate leader, a dedicated public servant, and a proud champion of Coral Springs. She served our community with grace, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to making Coral Springs a place where all residents feel seen, heard, and valued. Her leadership extended far beyond policy. She built bridges, uplifted voices, and inspired others through her authenticity, kindness, and deep love for this city. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, the initiatives she supported, and the spirit of unity and inclusion she helped foster throughout our community.
As we also observe Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded of the importance of caring for one another, extending compassion, and ensuring that no one feels alone in times of grief or struggle. The City of Coral Springs remains committed to supporting the well-being of our community and encouraging residents to reach out when help is needed. If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. Simply dial 2-1-1, text 898211, or call 9-8-8 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
As we move through the month, we invite residents to come together not only to participate in city events, but to support one another and honor the sense of community that Nancy so deeply embodied.
We begin the month with the Cinco de Mayo Community Concert on Friday, May 1, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the City Hall Lawn (9500 West Sample Road). Residents can enjoy live performances by the Jamboree Latin Band and headliner FM Band Miami, along with family-friendly activities, games, and a variety of food trucks.
On May 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., we invite residents to Meet Your Municipal Team at Turtle Run Park (6400 Wiles Road). This casual, family-friendly event is a great opportunity to connect with city staff, learn more about programs and services, and stay informed about upcoming projects.
We also welcome the community to gather for the National Day of Prayer on May 7 at 7 p.m. at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts (2855 Coral Springs Drive). Hosted in partnership with the Clergy Coalition of Coral Springs and Parkland and the Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee, this event brings together people of all faiths in a spirit of unity and reflection.
During National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4–8, we celebrate the educators who make a difference in the lives of our students every day. The city has partnered with local businesses to offer special deals for teachers as a small token of appreciation for the important work they do. Additional details are available at CoralSprings.gov/teachers.
For those looking to get creative, Clay Dates returns on May 9 at 5 p.m. at the Coral Springs Museum of Art (2855A Coral Springs Drive). This beginner-friendly ceramics workshop invites participants to design and create their own clay pieces. Registration is $40 per person, and pre-registration is required at CoralSpringsMuseumofArt.org.
Young strategists are invited to compete in the King of Coral Springs Chess Tournament on May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Kiwanis Community Center (520 Ramblewood Drive). This free event is open to students ages 5 to 18, with pre-registration required on our website.
We close the month by honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice at our Memorial Day Ceremony on May 25 at 9 a.m. at Veterans Park (8601 Royal Palm Blvd). In partnership with the Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs, this ceremony pays tribute to the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.
