Three people have taken the first official step toward running for the Coral Springs City Commission seat left vacant by the death of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer.
Coral Springs Police Sgt. Bill Capplis, Erick Nyatenya, and Adeline Darius have each submitted the initial financial paperwork required to launch a campaign for Seat 3. The DS-DE 9 form, which designates a campaign treasurer and establishes a depository account, is the first formal requirement for anyone seeking local office in Florida.
The seat will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot, with the candidate qualifying period running from June 8 through June 12.
Seat 3 is one of several city races voters will decide in November. Mayor Scott Brook and Commissioner Joshua Simmons are both competing for the city’s top job. Simmons’ departure from his current post due to term limits leaves Seat 4 open as well. Commissioner Shawn Cerra is seeking re-election for Seat 2 and is currently the only candidate who has filed for that race.
