A new management company may be chosen to run youth soccer in Coral Springs, marking a potential shift in how the program is operated.
This decision follows an April 28 meeting where the city’s soccer selection committee voted to recommend RLC Management Sports Programs to the commission at the May 6 meeting. Other organizations considered were the Fort Lauderdale Football Club and the Parkland Travel Soccer Club, according to Paula Rubiano, the city’s spokesperson.
In recommending RLC Management, the committee identified a Coral Springs-based nonprofit that operates the Springs Soccer Club. The organization develops players aged 8-19 through coaching and training. It also offers competitive boys’ teams with MLS Next, according to the company website.
Recreational soccer in Coral Springs has been provided by Coral Springs Youth Soccer for many years. All coaching roles are filled by volunteers. At commission meetings, some of these volunteers have spoken about the benefits of a program that gives every person a chance to play.
Residents and some city leaders have recently asked the commission for a more consistent soccer program with more travel team opportunities. At the March 26 workshop, Deputy City Manager Bradley McKeone outlined youth soccer options, emphasizing travel soccer and development programs.
