Coral Springs will have to wait for progress to resume on the Sportsplex.
During the August 5 meeting, the commission voted to continue the item that would have awarded a $1,171,988 design services contract to PBK Architects Florida, Inc. for the initial design phase of the Sportsplex project.
The goal is to create a large sports and athletic center that would attract tournaments and high-level athletic competitions to Coral Springs. During public comments and commission discussion, concerns were raised about the project’s cost and what should be built there.
A major concern raised in the comments was that, given the possibility of reduced property tax revenue, Coral Springs may have less money to spend on a very large project.
A date was not set for the item to appear on an agenda, but during the meeting, Mayor Scott Brook said it will probably be after the November 3 election.
