The Coral Springs High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams ran well during a meet at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach on September 11. The girls’ team earned second place, and the boys earned third.
Teams from Flanagan, South Plantation, Dillard, Blanche Ely, McArthur, and Deerfield Beach high schools participated. The girls and boys ran together because a thunderstorm was coming, and as soon as the race was complete, the lighting siren went off.
Jeffrey Belizaire, the top Colts runner, finished in second place overall. He is preparing for the upcoming district meet and hoping to qualify for the state championship meet.
Marcus Gentilhommee finished ninth, and Tyler Cline finished 19th in the boys’ race. Gabrielle Gentilhomme finished seventh, and Olivia Higgins finished 8th in the girls’ race, according to Timespann.com.
“It takes hard work, dedication, consistency, and discipline to be a successful cross-country runner,” said Belizaire. “I love running, and I always work to get better.”
According to Coral Springs coach Braxton Patterson, the top runners for the girls’ team are Gabriella Gentilhomme and Olivia Higgins, and for the boys’ team, Matthew Wykpisz, Tyler Cline, Marcus Gentilhomme, and David Doreus.
Running is a family affair for the Colts. Gabriella’s sister Lydia and brother Marcus are teammates. “We enjoy running and being on the team together,” said Gabriella.
