A man was arrested for battery by strangulation following a chaotic domestic incident that concluded with him being pepper-sprayed while clinging to a moving vehicle and tracked down by K9 officers behind a home.
On August 7, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a report of a domestic violence incident near the 1300 block of North University Drive.
According to the report, upon arriving at the scene, officers made contact with the victim, who reported that during an argument over a text message her significant other, later identified as Brian Herandez, 25, of North Lauderdale, had received from another female.
CSPD records show the victim asked Hernandez to leave, and both parties entered the victim’s vehicle to drive him home. However, before they reached his home, a heated argument occurred in the car, prompting Hernandez to turn the vehicle around and head back toward the victim’s house.
Before reaching the victim’s home, records show Hernandez stopped at a Mobil gas station located at 1351 North University Drive. The victim told officers he began to cry and then grabbed her throat with his left hand and squeezed.
In a chaotic series of events, both the victim and Hernandez exited the vehicle, and the victim managed to get back into the driver’s seat in an attempt to leave.
The victim told officers that to dissuade Hernandez from trying to stop her from fleeing, she pepper sprayed him, which caused him to scream that his eyes were burning and jump on top of the moving vehicle.
In a panic, the victim told CSPD she drove away with Hernandez still in the vehicle, holding onto the window seal. She recounted how he eventually let go of the car near Shadowood Drive and Northwest 91st Avenue.
The victim waited at her apartment complex entrance until Coral Springs Police Department officers arrived and gave them a description of Hernandez. They soon spotted Hernandez running westbound across Northwest 93rd Terrace behind residential areas.
CSPD K9 officers tracked and apprehended Hernandez behind a home near the 1500 block of Northwest 93rd Terrace.
Hernandez was transported to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical clearance before being booked into the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $3,000 bond.
