One of the all-time great Coral Springs Charter baseball players, Luis Guillorme, made his return to the MLB with the Houston Astros.
A 2013 graduate from CSC, Guillorme made his first appearance in the big leagues on Saturday as a pinch hitter against the Minnesota Twins. He started the next two games on Sunday and Monday, recording his first hit of the season against the Athletics. He also made an incredible diving catch in the fourth inning on a ball hit from Tyler Soderstrom.
Guillorme was always more known for his glove throughout his MLB career, but he shined with CSC, hitting .570 with 34 runs, 17 doubles, and one triple. He was later drafted by the New York Mets in the tenth round of the MLB Draft, pick number 296, and spent six seasons in New York.
Guillorme would go on to have stints with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024. He then signed a one-year contract with the Astros for $1 million, hitting .248 in the minor league with two home runs before being called up.
