
Coral Springs Boys and Girls cross country teams.
Olivia Higgins, a top cross-country runner from Coral Springs High School, took second place at the 4A district championship meet at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton on November 5.
Kendall Parrott, who ran for the Coral Springs Charter cross-country team last year and now runs for St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, won the race, and her team took first place overall.
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) girls’ team earned second place, with Emiliana Anzures finishing eighth and Olympia Koumuotsakis coming in twelfth.
The J.P. Taravella girls’ team finished third, with Olivia Noel finishing sixth and Valentina Castillo coming in fourteenth. Coral Springs High School did not enter a full girls’ team.
The Coral Springs boys’ team came in third with Matthew Wykpisz earning fourth and Marcus Gentilhomme taking thirteenth.
The J.P. Taravella boys’ team came in fifth with Craig Dennis coming in ninth, JahRee Pierre taking fourteenth, and Scardy Fils finishing fifteenth.
The MSD boys’ team finished eighth, and Matthew Rosenberg came in tenth.
All of these teams qualified for the regional championship, which will be held on Wednesday morning, November 12, at Larry and Penny Thompson Park in Miami.
J.P. Taravella coach Dawn Spann said she was glad the boys’ and girls’ teams qualified for the regional championship, but would have liked the boys to place higher. “We had some personal bests today, and I am glad we are moving on,” she said.
MSD coach Michael Mauro was very pleased with the Eagles’ performance. “I am thrilled, and everyone on the team ran well. I am looking forward to regionals,” he said.
