Leroy Bannister {BSO}
A Bahamian man living illegally in the United States has been arrested following a months-long undercover drug sting operation by the Coral Springs Police Department.
According to CSPD investigation records, Leroy Bannister, 49, of Coral Springs, was taken into custody on July 30 after arriving at a prearranged location to sell drugs to an undercover officer.
According to police, Bannister is a native of the Bahamas who had previously been deported and was residing in Coral Springs illegally. His arrest has been referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The investigation began in early June after officers received information that Bannister was selling a multitude of drugs in the area. Over the following weeks, a detective with the department’s Vice Intelligence Narcotics unit made multiple undercover purchases from Bannister, who was caught on undercover audio and video recording equipment negotiating drug sales and delivering illegal substances.
On four separate occasions, Bannister drove to agreed-upon locations in Coral Springs to sell oxycodone and other drugs, despite having a permanently revoked Florida driver’s license.
The final transaction occurred on July 30, when Bannister arrived at a site on West Sample Road intending to sell oxycodone pills and a large quantity of “molly” (MDMA) to the undercover detective – instead, members of the Coral Springs SWAT team arrested him.
A search following his arrest revealed he had oxycodone tablets, a bag containing substituted cathinones, amphetamine pills, and Xanax, according to police.
Bannister was arrested and transferred to the Broward County Main Jail, where he remains in custody without bond.
