Coral Springs Kicks off the 11th Annual Festival of the Arts in March

Mark your calendars for Coral Springs largest event of the year – the Coral Springs Festival of the Arts. The event, which will be held March 7-8 will be its 11th year of this long-running weekend of art, culture and entertainment which attracts an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 people.

To make the event even more exciting, the Organizing Committee has assembled a huge giveaway of products, services, and merchandise. The giveaway prizes are collectively valued well in excess of $10,000. Entrants are able to sign up or in person at the event.

“Last year, there were 22 separate prize winners announced over the course of the weekend,” said Shirley Richards, Chairman of the Organizing Committee. “We anticipate replicating the same prize drawing process this year and calling out winners hourly”.

This year, the Festival of the Arts will be preceded by additional cultural events in advance of the big weekend. The Coral Springs Center for the Performing Arts will host literary workshops on March 5th and 6th, which are structured to provide a rewarding experience for readers, writers, editors, publishers, and illustrators. Concurrently, the adjacent Coral Springs Museum will host Comic Fest Coral Springs (on March 6-7), a family friendly comic/anime convention. Comic Fest will feature special guest artists, an artist’s alley, comic/collectible vendors, panels, gaming room and tournament, costume contest, photo op areas, pop and comic art exhibitions, “Pop Goes the Comics” juried art competition and exhibition, video competition, and much more.

To entertain the crowds, the Festival of the Arts includes two separate stages for live performances of music, art, and dance by renowned local and visiting performers. For 2015, unique vocalists have been added to the list of impressive performers. Families will enjoy two accomplished musical theater singers performing a medley of Disney songs, as Elsa and Anna from “Frozen”. The Redemption Young Adult Church Choir will sing to Gospel music and One Note, an a Capella group, will provide unique vocal performances.

The long list of performers will include the popular Japanese Taiko drums, Polynesian dancers, and the Iko Iko blues band, with violinist Nicole Yarling. Other musical varieties and performances include Latin, Jazz and Big Band. On Sunday, the ROB Quartet will feature Latin music Grammy nominee and Billboard award-winning harpist, Roberto Perera. The live performances will culminate on Sunday with a concert by Never Stop Believin’, a Journey tribute band.

For the second year in a row, the Festival of the Arts will include Gardenfest, which provides the serious and occasional gardener an opportunity to interact with and solicit advice from experts, Master Gardeners, wildlife habitat stewards, and nursery growers. There will be an abundant display of vegetation, including exotic and native plants, unusual ferns, fruit and flowering trees, diverse varieties of beautiful flowers, and aromatic herbs, all of which can be taken home.

The Festival of the Arts will be held at The Walk located on the west side of North University Drive, between Royal Palm Blvd and Sample Road. Ample free parking and a free trolley shuttle directly to the event are provided at the Coral Springs Center for the Performing Arts.
