A Coral Springs man accused of sexual battery is back in jail after video allegedly showed him knocking on women’s doors and trying a handle while on house arrest.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, police arrested Javier Alberto Gonzalez, 38, on September 15 outside his residence on the 8700 block of Wiles Road.
Gonzalez had been out on pretrial release since April 30 on a charge of sexual battery without great force, stemming from an April arrest in which police say he made unwanted sexual advances toward a woman he had hired to clean his apartment.
In that case, the woman told investigators that Gonzalez portrayed himself as disabled and asked her for a hug, saying he was depressed over a divorce. She said she later noticed he was wearing only underwear, and that he repeatedly approached her, touched her hands, and hovered around her as she cleaned.
According to police, Gonzalez gestured with his fingers and asked “how much money,” which the woman took as a request for sexual favors. As a condition of his release, Gonzalez was required to remain confined to his residence.
That warrant states that on September 6, Gonzalez was captured on surveillance video inside a neighboring apartment building, knocking on the doors of female occupants. The footage also appears to show him trying to manipulate the handle of one of the front doors, according to the document.
During the police investigation, the property manager told police that Gonzalez had been approaching women in the parking lot, the warrant says. The property manager also reported that Gonzalez had been seen inappropriately touching himself in front of other residents.
Coral Springs police forwarded an incident report and the video to Pretrial Services on September 15. Ledee revoked Gonzalez’s release the same day and ordered his arrest.
Officers took Gonzalez into custody and transported him to the Broward County Main Jail.
