A Coral Springs man was arrested after police say he made unwanted sexual advances toward a woman he had hired to clean his home, even resorting to being disabled so that she would give him a hug.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Javier Alberto Gonzalez, 37, was taken into custody on April 14 at his apartment near the 8700 block of Wiles Road and later charged with battery.
According to records, officers responded to the residence in reference to a possible sexual battery. When they arrived, they detained Gonzalez and spoke with the victim, who told investigators she had been hired for a professional cleaning job at the home.
The victim told police that Gonzalez initially portrayed himself as disabled and asked her for a hug, claiming he was depressed due to an ongoing divorce. She said she felt uncomfortable but eventually agreed to hug him.
After the hug, the woman noticed Gonzalez was only wearing underwear and moved into the kitchen area to continue her work. While she was cleaning, she told police that Gonzalez repeatedly approached her, touched her hands, and hovered closely around her as she worked.
Investigators say Gonzalez allegedly gestured with his fingers and asked “how much money,” which the victim interpreted as a request for sexual favors. She also told police that Gonzalez began speaking clearly in Portuguese despite previously acting as if he had a speech impairment, leading her to believe he had been pretending in order to gain her trust.
The victim eventually fled the apartment and contacted law enforcement. According to the report, Gonzalez later sent text messages to a phone he believed belonged to the victim, asking if she could “give me some,” which were collected as evidence.
Gonzalez was arrested and booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
