The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit has launched an investigation after a Coral Springs man died nearly two weeks after being involved in a crash in Deerfield Beach.
The incident occurred on May 5, at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Southwest 10th Street and Southwest Sixth Avenue after Sheldon Weisbrot, 54, of Coral Springs, was riding his red 2016 Honda PCX 150 scooter eastbound in the right-thru lane of Southwest 10th Street.
Concurrently, Rogelia Segura, 65, of Deerfield Beach, was traveling westbound in a blue 2018 Toyota RAV4 on the same street.
As Weisbrot entered the intersection, Segura attempted to turn left onto Southwest Sixth Avenue, heading south. Unfortunately, Segura’s maneuver placed her vehicle directly in the scooter’s path, resulting in a T-bone-style crash. The scooter collided with the passenger side of the RAV4.
Authorities from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Paramedics transported Segura, the driver of the Toyota, to a local hospital for evaluation, and she was subsequently released.
Weisbrot, however, sustained critical injuries and was immediately transported to Broward Health North.
On Thursday, May 18, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit received notification of Weisbrot’s death and initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
