A woman is facing multiple felony charges, including assault on a law enforcement officer, after allegedly reversing her vehicle toward a Coral Springs police officer during a traffic stop, fleeing, and leading police on a multi-city high-speed chase that ended in Sunrise.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department report, Torwin Bryone Reynolds, 23, of Hallandale Beach, was driving eastbound on West Sample Road around 10:20 p.m. on October 11 when an officer observed her allegedly commit several traffic violations near the intersection of Coral Ridge Drive and Sample Road.
Records show the officer initiated a traffic stop at the 7-Eleven parking lot at 11650 West Sample Road. The officers alleged that Reynolds immediately tried to exit the vehicle but was ordered back inside while they reviewed her paperwork and records.
According to the arrest affidavit, as the officer re-approached, Reynolds’ front-seat passenger allegedly reached for a bag on the floorboard, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot. Moments later, Reynolds allegedly shifted the car into reverse, accelerating toward the officer. The officer reported striking the trunk with his hand to push the vehicle away as he jumped to safety.
Amid the chaos, the officer noted in the report that he drew a firearm and ordered Reynolds to stop, but she instead fled eastbound. A police helicopter tracked her movements south on the Sawgrass Expressway, where Coral Springs and Broward Sheriff’s deputies later stopped her at 6354 West Oakland Park Boulevard in Sunrise.
Reynolds was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. She was later released after posting a $15,000 bond.
There is no mention in the report that officers were able to identify the passenger who fled the vehicle before Reynolds fled the scene. Police describe him in the report only as a slim-built black male, 20-30 years old, with pink fishnet covering dreadlocks.
