The Coral Springs/Parkland Democratic Club is gearing up for a busy year ahead of November’s midterm elections, providing updates on meetings, events, and volunteer opportunities.
The club holds meetings on the first Thursday of every month at the Cypress Park Meeting Room, located at 1300 Coral Springs Dr. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.
Membership is $15 per year and $25 per year for couples.
At their Thursday, Feb. 3 meeting, State Representative Christine Hunschofsky will speak.
In the organization’s February newsletter, president Francis Farnum, Sr., commented that his past two years as the club’s president have been rewarding and affirming; however, he will not pursue another term and will assist whoever succeeds him.
As of press time, Farnum was not available for comment on when his term ends.
Farnum thanked his board members and directors, including Vice President Laurie Plotnick, Secretary Susan Pignato, and Treasurer Rona Silberman, for setting up Zoom meetings, moving the newsletters forward, and navigating candidate forums, despite the pandemic.
“Covid-19 was a thorn in our sides, but we came out stronger than ever,” he wrote.
In 2022, the organization will work to engage more voters ahead of the midterms. According to Area 2 Leader Nilda Puig, the organization and other affiliated groups in Broward County seek to target low-turnout voters to sign up for Vote By Mail and promote RideShare2Vote Aware, where volunteers can drive residents to their voting locations.
Farnum concluded by recognizing the club’s members, whom he said helped the organization accomplish its goals in 2020, which included electing President Joe Biden.
“All of this happened because of you, the members of the Coral Springs Parkland Democratic Club,” he said. “You regularly step forward and volunteer to do so much and contribute in so many ways.”
