The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department ranks among the top-performing emergency medical service agencies in the nation after newly released 2025 cardiac arrest data placed the department in the top 10% nationally.
According to the CARES Registry report, CSPFD crews attempted 72 resuscitations in 2025 and achieved a 23.6% survival-to-discharge rate — more than double the national average of 10.5% and well above Florida’s 13.1% average.
“These results reflect the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department’s commitment to excellence through continuous training, advanced lifesaving equipment, and the dedication of our firefighter-paramedics, medical directors, police officers, and dispatchers,” Fire Chief John Whalen said in a statement.
Additional findings showed the department recorded a 31.9% sustained return of spontaneous circulation rate, surpassing both state and national averages, and a 13.9% good neurological outcome rate, nearly double the national benchmark.
The report also found CSPFD achieved a 70% survival rate in bystander-witnessed cardiac arrests involving shockable rhythms and a 75% survival rate when bystanders immediately provided CPR or used an AED before EMS crews arrived.
According to the city, community involvement also played a major role in the outcomes. Coral Springs recorded a 45.8% bystander CPR rate, topping both the Florida and national averages. Public AED use occurred in 42.9% of eligible cases.
In 2024, the department expanded access to lifesaving equipment by installing 30 outdoor cabinets containing AEDs and bleeding control kits at 10 city parks and outside City Hall. Officials said two of the public AEDs have already been used by civilians during emergencies.
