Coral Springs Police May Get $800K Upgrade With New Rugged Laptops

Coral Springs Police officers working the streets could soon be getting a major tech upgrade.
Police Chief Brad Mock will ask city commissioners Wednesday to approve a contract for the purchase of 143 rugged laptop computers at a cost of $720,000, plus an additional $80,000 to pay for any additional laptops or accessories police may need, according to city records.
The contract to supply the computers would go to PCN Strategies of Washington D.C., which the city found through working with ONMIA Partners, a governmental co-op procurement group that works to get municipalities the best bid prices, the records state.
The Police Department provides rugged laptops – which are thicker and more durable than standard laptops – to officers who spend most of their time in vehicles on the streets.
“They have utilized a variety of laptops through the years and found that the fully ruggedized laptops have been shown to be the most durable and reliable laptops for their line of work,” the city said in a memo. “With the limited space within the vehicles, the mounting capability is more maneuverable and will not interfere with the light/siren box.”
If approved at Wednesday’s commission meeting, the contract with PCN Strategies would run from March 5, 2025, through November 7, 2026.
