Lately, safety is at the top of everyone’s list of concerns, and in a recent study, Coral Springs was named the 13th safest city in America in populations over 100,000.
An analysis of crime statistics of 297 heavily populated cities in America determined the rankings based on each city’s cost of crime. MoneyGeek, a personal finance technology company, analyzed the crime statistics from the FBI by calculating the cost per capita in each city.
In Coral Springs, the cost of crime was $40.7 million or $301 per capita, while the average cost of crime in the United States is $1,734 per capita.
The violent crime rate was 121 per 100,000, and the property crime rate was 1,232 per 100,000 residents.
The 20 safest cities had crime costs below $352 per capita, with the lowest in Naperville, Illinois, at $187. St. Louis, Missouri, had the highest cost of crime, at $11,574 per capita. Cape Coral was the only other city in Florida to appear in the top 20, ranking seventh on the list.
Mass shootings represented 3 percent of the total cost of crime for the cities analyzed.
