It was an amazing start to the weekend on Saturday, with Coral Springs High School and Coral Springs Charter cheerleading teams each winning a District Championship while Coral Glades finished in third.
Coral Springs High School
CSHS competed against five schools in South Broward, Deerfield Beach, Miramar, and Plantation High School to come in first place at Coral Glades High School. In December, the Colts competed in the Universal Cheerleading Association Regional Qualifier and made nationals.
“The girls went out there and fought for their routine,” said Head Coach Amanda’s Mortimer. “ I am happy with how we did today and can’t wait for these girls to perform again next week at regionals.”
Their teams consist of Alexandra Albertson, Victoria Ortiz, Cassidy Carpenter, Isabella Archanjo, Gianna Greco, Heidi Brown, Rachel Zimmerman, Temiah Shuman, Ashley Pagliai, Rylie Feller, Isabella Visca, Alexi Rodriguez, Vania Saint Fleur, Rihanna Ramos, Anaiya Bailey, and Madissen Drakes.
Coral Springs Charter
For the Panthers, not only were they the only team to participate in their division, but they were the only all-girl tumbling team in the country. Like CSHS, CSC will also be competing in Nationals after winning the Universal Cheerleading Association Regional Qualifier.
“Today, we are extremely proud of our performance,” said Head Coach Rachal Garris. “Our athletes worked hard to come together as a team and put on a strong performance.”
CSC teams consist of Kaitlyn Stewart, Juliana Browne, Alana Browne, Jessica Camacho, Kayla Davis, Ashlee Diaz, Sydney Manning, Kaitlyn O’Neill, Karly Ruskin, Riley Spran, Kasey Werner, Riley Whitman, and Mikayla Whitney.
Coral Glades
Coming in third, Coral Glades participated in their first tournament of the season. For Head Coach Alison Madej, it was not the team’s best day, but she is excited about what the team will do next.
“We had challenges today, but we are determined to come back better and stronger next week,” said Coach Madej.
Their team features Carly Ginn, Tatiana Chico, Valentina Piedrahita, Bella Hernandez, Angelina Smith, Mariyah Baptiste, Sarah Peters, Blake Sands, Joley Marr, Angelina Rizzuto, Sydney Littman, Arianna Manning, Sabrina Ruas, Madison Smith, Anaira Lopez, Arielle Whittle, Jada Howson, Brooke Jolliff, Macie Schnell, Tavi Cummings, Kasey Ardron, Briana Zabaleta, Mydayjah Leclair, Rian Seligman, Jenna Walker, Alexis Roberts, Shea Esposito, and Sophia Castro.
Next, all three of these teams will compete in Regionals at Coral Glades High School on Friday, January 14, attempting to qualify for States.
