A man is being charged with aggravated assault using a deadly weapon after a heated road rage incident where he reportedly aimed a gun at another driver amid a high-speed pursuit.
On January 18, the Coral Springs Police Department received a 911 call from a driver who reported being the victim of a road rage incident that included a firearm and prolonged chase throughout Northwest Coral Springs.
According to the victim, the ordeal began at 5800 Northwest 66th Terrace, where they described being followed by an enraged man driving a black Volvo, later identified as Rashad Ahamad Rampartap, 27, of Coconut Creek.
As the victim proceeded along NW 66th Terrace, he claimed to officers Rampartap followed closely, armed himself with a black handgun, and pointed it at him from inside his vehicle.
The victim told officers while pointing the gun at him, Rampartap yelled, ‘I will kill you! I will murder you!”
Records show the victim claims the pursuit continued to the intersection of Creekside Drive and Northwest 66th Terrace, where both vehicles were momentarily aligned with Rampartap in the left turn lane and the victim in the right turn lane.
The victim then turned onto Creekside Drive, making his way eastbound on Wiles Road, with Rampartap maintaining the pursuit.
The victim executed a U-turn on Wiles Road, heading westbound to evade his pursuer, but Rampartap continued the chase.
The pursuit eventually concluded near the intersection of State Road 7 and Wiles Road, where Rampartap stopped following and headed northbound on State Road 7.
The victim sought refuge in the parking lot of a Home Depot and contacted the Coral Springs Police.
Officers investigating the incident were able to locate Rampartap and initiated a traffic stop at the Marathon at 5425 Lyons Road.
During a search of Rampartap’s vehicle, a black handgun matching the victim’s description was found.
During interviews, he later admitted to the road rage incident but claimed he did not point the gun at the victim.
Rampartap was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
