Moviegoers at Regal Magnolia Place cinema thought the worst Tuesday when three kids tossed firecrackers into a theater, sending the crowd into a panic.
The incident happened during a 9:05 p.m. showing of Inside Out 2 at the theater at 9645 Westview Drive, according to a witness and a Coral Springs Police report. The firecrackers landed toward the front of Theater #9 and produced clouds of smoke.
The three firework-throwers, apparently trying to carry out a prank, got away. The witness described the fireworks thrown in the theater as “smoke bombs.”
“Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident, but patrons were understandably shaken up by what had occurred,” the police report states.
The incident will not be investigated any further, according to the report.
According to a witness, the audience of kids and adults “panicked” when the fireworks emitted flames and smoke. Moviegoers bolted for the exits as popcorn and drinks flew, she said.
One woman fell amid the rush and hit her head, according to the witness, who asked that her name not be used out of concern for her safety.
“Everyone in the theater started screaming ‘get out, get out,’ they thought we were under attack,” she said. “It was chaos.”
The three kids have not been identified or charged.
