{Flora’s Italian Eatery}
Flora’s Italian Eatery and Angela’s Bar & Kitchen is set to celebrate the soft opening of a two-story plaza, divided vertically, an architectural metaphor for the way Italians eat.
The 15,000-square-foot space at 12335 West Sample Road, across from Panthers IceDen, will host a soft opening on Monday, January 19.
Primed to be a celebration of Italian flavors, the location is not merely a new restaurant opening but the culmination of a half-century spent importing, refining, and preserving Italy’s everyday foods, now reassembled for public life.
The project is the latest expression of Flora Fine Foods, a family-run importer whose products – including Italian staples such as wine, tomatoes, cookies, and gelato – are mainstays in supermarkets, on cruise lines, and in restaurant kitchens across the United States. The sprawling two-story foothold is the masterpiece of Giovanni Flora, known to most as John, a 73-year-old native of Bari, Italy.
The ground floor is designed for constant movement. Guests can order Roman-style pizza, hot dishes from a rotating bar, pastries, or deli sandwiches sliced on imported Berkel machines engineered for prosciutto and mortadella. Bread is baked fresh. Soups and sauces are made in-house. Gelato arrives from Italy. Coffee comes from Lavazza machines calibrated to produce something close to a Roman espresso bar.
Upstairs, Angela’s Bar & Kitchen — named for Flora’s daughter, Angela Flora, a Coral Springs native and graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, leans toward small plates meant for sharing, supported by a deep wine list and a cocktail program designed to complement, rather than compete with, the food. A private dining room allows for events, tastings, and structured wine education, drawing on the company’s decades of importing experience.
The kitchen is led by executive chef Francesco Cavarretta, whose international background brings a subtle looseness to the family’s traditional recipes.
The downstairs space will operate Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hours on Saturday will be 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The upstairs area will open daily at 3:00 p.m. and remain open through dinner service, featuring a happy hour.
