The Rotary Club of Coral Springs will welcome former police officer and bomb technician Lisa Meade Romero for a special speaking engagement focused on the often-unseen stress carried by first responders and others working in high-pressure professions.
Romero will present “The Stress That First Responders Carry” on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at La Pizzeria, 5632 Sample Road in Margate.
A former teacher, police officer and bomb technician, Romero spent years training to respond to emergencies, threats and unexpected situations. Her experience also gave her insight into a challenge that can receive far less attention: how first responders cope with what remains after a crisis has ended.
According to the Rotary Club, Romero discovered that while professionals may receive extensive training for what their jobs require, they can be far less prepared for the emotional and psychological burdens those experiences may leave behind.
Her presentation will encourage attendees to think differently about preparation, including not only how people are trained to face difficult situations but also how organizations and communities support them afterward.
Romero now draws on her experience in high-stakes communication to work with teams and organizations, helping identify miscommunication and improve how people respond under pressure.
