The Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to disproportionately affecting Black Americans health-wise, also took a devastating toll financially—and up to 90 percent of minority and women owners were shut out of the Paycheck Protection Program, with Black-owned businesses being the least likely to receive federal aid.
For Black businesses in Coral Springs and neighboring cities, they may find relief through the latest grant launched by the Broward County Black Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber is attempting to address the racial discrepancy, by launching small business grants for Black-owned businesses in the county.
They have partnered with Fiserv, Inc. to provide grants up to $10,000 to for-profit, Black-owned businesses in Broward—and they don’t have to be members of the Camber to be considered.
Fiserv provided $500,000 to go towards the grant fund, to meet the unprecedented difficulties small, local Black businesses are facing.
