The J.P. Taravella boys’ cross-country team is performing well and continuing to improve early in the season.
The Trojans earned second place out of 37 teams at the Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School Bulldog Cross Country Invitational meet on September 6 in Boca Raton. Scardy Fils earned 14th overall with a time of 17.21, Craig Dennis placed 27th with a time of 17.57.3, and JahRee Pierre placed 28th with a time of 17.57.5.
“This was a very big race, and the boys did well. They have bought into the program and have been training hard over the entire year,” said Coach Dawn Spann.

The Taravella girls’ team earned 13th place out of 28 teams. Olivia Noel placed 41st out of 244 runners with a time of 21.33. Jada Thelwell finished 57th with a time of 22.12, and Valentina Castillo placed 72nd with a time of 22.43.
The only other local participating team was Coral Springs Charter, where the girls’ team earned fifth place overall, and Cecilia Kozlowski finished 35th with a time of 21.24. The Charter boys’ team finished 22nd and Lucas Werth finished 52nd with a time of 18.35.
