Tyler Cline of the Coral Springs High School boys’ cross-country team won first place in the first BCAA meet of the season at Trade Winds Park on September 2.
He was glad to win, but hopes to improve as the season progresses. “It was hot today, and I ran as hard as I could,” said Cline.
Lucas Werth of Coral Springs Charter earned second place in the boys’ race. “I could have done better, and I will work to improve as the season goes on,” he said.

The Coral Springs Charter girls’ team earned first place as a team. Lily Richardson of Charter earned fourth place overall and was the second-fastest runner on her team. “It was really hot and not the best course, and I am looking forward to the coming meets,” she said.
The meet was low-key, and the coaches and athletes viewed it as a tune-up for some of the major invitational meets, as well as the city championship, district, and regional meets. Some of the area’s top runners, such as Matthew Wykpisz of Coral Springs, did not participate because of an injury.
The Coral Glades High School boys’ team earned first place, and coach Frank Cunningham was not overly excited. “I will take the win, but we have much work to do. We have to work hard to prepare for the big upcoming meets,” he said.
Fabio Castillo, the leading runner for Coral Glades, earned third place overall. “I felt good, but I need to work hard to become faster,” he said.
