While most students were still on summer break, the cast and crew of J.P. Taravella High School’s drama department were already preparing for their first production of the season: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
The musical comedy, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, is widely regarded as one of Broadway’s greatest farces. Originally produced by Harold S. Prince, the show transports audiences to ancient Rome with a tale of mistaken identities, outrageous chases, and nonstop hilarity.
At the center of the plot is Pseudolus, a clever slave who devises a wild scheme to earn his freedom. His plan leads to chaos and comedy that has made the production a cornerstone of musical theater.
Performances will be held Sept. 25–27 at 7 p.m. at J.P. Taravella High School, 10600 Riverside Drive in Coral Springs. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and can be purchased online through GoFan.
The drama department encourages the community to support its hardworking students and enjoy an evening of laughter, wit, and music.
