Arheanna Bryan of the J.P. Taravella High School girls’ wrestling team earned second place in the Florida high school state wrestling championship in the 190-pound weight class.
Bryan faced Paisley Murphy of Sunlake High School in a close, hard-fought match on March 7 at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee. She entered the season undefeated but ultimately finished second, ending with a 31-1 record.
Her coach, Michael Bazos, expressed pride and predicted she could win States next year. Bryan led by one point with under a minute left, but Murphy rallied to win.
“She worked so hard this season and came into the championship match undefeated. We can’t wait to begin training for next season,” said Bazos.
After her second-place finish, Bryan celebrated with her coach at the Cheesecake Factory.
