After he believed his roommate was talking behind his back, a Coral Springs man attempted to choke and assault him with a kitchen knife, police say.
On January 31, Coral Springs Police responded to a call at the 8700 block of West Sample Road and met with the victim claiming his roommate had attacked, assaulted, and threatened to kill him with a knife.
According to the report, the victim said his roommate, Jose Zerrato Zuniga, 28, had confronted him over some derogatory comments he believed had been made about him. He told officers he was lying down in his bedroom when Zerrato Zuniga came in and placed his hands around his neck, causing him to lose the ability to breathe.
After Zerrato Zuniga released his grip around his neck, the argument grew increasingly physical, until, eventually, he was punched in the face. The victim said the altercation further escalated when Zerrato Zuniga threatened him with a kitchen knife while telling him: “I am not scared of jail. I have killed people in my country.”
When officers located Zerrate Zuniga, he admitted that he had confronted the victim but denied punching him in the face. He did, however, admit to showing the victim a knife and telling him that he would “cut his tongue” if he continued to talk about him behind his back.
After further interviews and observing injuries to the victim’s face consistent with being punched, officers arrested Zerrato Zuniga. He is currently being held without bond on an immigration charge at the Broward County Main Jail.
