A man was charged with stealing and carrying a loaded gun in Coral Springs Tuesday shortly after shots were fired in the area, court records show.
Jevon Petgrave, 19, of Delray Beach, was concealing the Taurus 9 millimeter pistol under his feet when Coral Springs Police pulled over the silver GMC Envoy he was in on June 7 around 12:36 a.m. in the 9000 block of West Sample Road, according to an arrest affidavit.
The GMC, driven by another man and had multiple passengers inside, had recently left Park Place at Turtle Run, where police had heard three gunshots fired 15 minutes earlier, records show.
The vehicle was stopped for driving without lights, police said.
Petgrave’s pistol, which had been reported stolen in Broward County, held nine bullets and had a 12-round capacity.
“Three rounds were missing,” a Coral Springs Police officer wrote in the affidavit.
Petgrave was charged with grand theft of a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm. He was not charged in connection with any shooting, the records show.
The GMC was traveling with plates registered to a different vehicle in Baltimore, Maryland, police said. Officers said they also found marijuana in the GMC.
It was unclear from the records whether any of the GMC’s other occupants were arrested.
Records show Petgrave was booked into the Broward Main Jail and released on a $2,000 bond.
