A new restaurant in Coral Springs hopes to give residents a healthy and vibrant alternative to fast food.
Slated to open in mid-July at 3111 North University Drive, Playa Bowls is part of a national chain.
Co-owners Ricardo Arguello and Darrell Casoria already own two Playa Bowls in Davie and Delray Beach and are excited to open a business in Coral Springs and become a part of the community.
A J.P. Taravella graduate of 2004, Arguello still lives a couple of blocks away from the school on Riverside and Pine Island.
“We are very proud to open in one of the city’s premier spots. All the kids in Coral Springs are going to like what we have on the menu. The bowls and smoothies are healthy but also very instagrammable,” he said.
While the 1,300 square feet restaurant gets ready for the big opening, the company wants to bring Playa Bowls food truck to the location every weekend to introduce the community to the brand.
“We have our famous acai and pitaya bowls, oatmeal, fresh smoothies, and cold press juices. Playa Bowls is a plant-based, healthy and quick alternative to what we have available in town,” said Arguello.
Casoria said the partners are proud to bring the brand to the community and are excited to be close to Coral Springs Charter School.
She shared that Playa Bowls was started by Robert Giuliani and Abby Taylor, two surfers from Jersey Shore who traveled the world chasing after great waves. In every exotic location they visited, they tried a local version of acai or pitaya bowl and eventually decided to recreate the recipes in their hometown.
What started as a pop-up stand on a sidewalk by the local pizza shop in 2014 has evolved into a national business with over 150 stores all over the country.
“Playa Bowls is a great concept that offers hundreds of healthy options for every taste. Every weekend there is a new store opening somewhere,” said Casoria.
