Bess Lobel 1922-2022
Bess Lobel, 99, passed away on August 11, 2022, in Coral Springs.
Born on December 13, 1922, in Wilmington, Delaware, she moved to Coral Springs to live with her daughter, Sandy Lobel, where Bess remained until her death.
Bess was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She married her amazing husband, Larry Lobel, in 1943, and they were together for 63 years before his death in 2007.
Bess’s life epitomized devotion to family and commitment to Jewish faith and values. She was a lifetime member of Congregation Beth Shalom in Delaware. In addition to her role as a homemaker, Bess provided care for her elderly parents and, with her husband Larry, owned and managed two neighborhood grocery stores. In the late 1970s, she worked in the sales department of the News Journal and Olan Mills Portrait Studios.
Bess was admired by family and friends as a talented baker and cook. She was also an avid bowler and card player and an enthusiastic daily walker who logged many miles and accumulated numerous friends while walking at local parks.
Bess Lobel is survived by daughters Evelyn Lobel (Ken Dodunski), Rhea Levy (the late Stan Levy), Sandy Lobel (Jim Marsh), and Marci Lobel (Louis Peña); by grandchildren Faith Levy (Jesse Hambright), Kevin Twer (Jacquelyn Campbell), Bill Levy, Ethan Twer (Junedale Nishiyama), Ellen Dagastine (Ray Dagastine), Rachel Smith (Kevin Smith), Joshua Lobel-Witlen (Kristina Antonoff), Carlos Peña-Lobel (Abby Westover), and Maya Peña-Lobel; by great-grandchildren Zachary Dagastine, Hanae Twer, and Kai Smith; and by devoted caretakers Victoria Trenchfield and Tanisha Trenchfield.

Shiva service Thursday 8:00 pm at Congregation Beth Shalom, 1801 Baynard Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802 (302-654-4462).
Bess had three brothers George, Israel, and Louis Weiner. She and her husband were parents to daughters (Rhea Levy, Evelyn, Sandy, and Marci Lobel), nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren who live worldwide.
Her daughter, Sandy, has been an advocate, as well as an educator, for the Coral Springs community since moving there in 1983.
With the loving assistance of her aides, Victoria and Tanisha Trenchfield, as well as with the assistance of our wonderful Coral Springs community, Bess was able to maintain an exceptional quality of life.
Though Bess Lobel has passed, we continue to remember her in spirit. If any donations would like to be made in her memory, please do so with Temple Beth Orr at 2151 Riverside Dr, CS 33071.
